Between July 27 and August 1, 2026, I attended an inspiring educational course entitled "Outdoor Activities for Mental and Physical Health" in the historic and sunny Croatian city of Split.
The course was led by an exceptional local instructor, Ana Bučević Romić. Together with teachers from various parts of Europe, we explored ways to turn nature into a modern classroom and support the wellbeing of our students.
A major benefit of the course was the practical integration of outdoor activities with digital technologies. Directly in the field, we tried out the "Nature Scavenger Hunt" activity. Using smartphones and the interactive Padlet app, we completed creative cross-curricular challenges. We looked for mathematical symbols in the structure of trees, photographed visual contrasts, scanned local flora using botanical apps, recorded nature sounds, and created works of art from fallen branches and stones (so-called Land Art). The program also included conscious diaphragmatic breathing techniques to relieve stress and tension in children.
I plan to actively bring the acquired knowledge, ready-made methodological materials, and enthusiasm for "green teaching" into our classrooms and share them with my colleagues. I believe that these innovative outdoor activities will help our students improve concentration, strengthen teamwork, and develop a positive relationship with both nature and modern technology.
